Coney Island’s Art Walls

It’s summertime and the living is easy. Every New Yorker knows that a visit to Coney Island is a “must do” when the warm weather rolls around. You go for the boardwalk, good bites (food), the rides, cool people and strolling on the very busy beach. A great addition to the already great spot is the art walls. A collective of artists get together and curate a great collection of colorful and though provocative pieces. Stop and take a  picture because it’s worth it.

I adored the simplicity and nostalgia of this piece. But the message here can connote that love can be dangerous.

Buy a quick bite from a vendor, bring a blanket and munch on the beach.

Summer Sights:New York City

Often times we are making plans and booking flights in order to flee the city for summer but there is really no better place than NYC during the summer. There are so many sights that you can actually soak in and appreciate without the whip of cold wind slashing across your face (I exaggerate but try walking down 34th Street in the Winter in order to look at the Macy’s window. It’s not fun because it’s cold!)

There are tons of parks and attractions that can be enjoyed (preferably during the week because the weekends can get crowded) . Let’s take a look at some of my favorite places to visit during the summer:

Coney Island has been a must-see attraction in Brooklyn for years but this isn’t your mom’s Coney Island. They have upgraded with new rides and an awesome art wall area and visiting food trucks. The art walls are a great backdrop for pictures with friends or an awesome selfie.

The Wonder Wheel! Take a ride on it before you leave Coney Island.

Take a minute to frolic on one of the many beaches along the Atlantic Ocean. Coney Island’s beach is busy but has great energy.

Find a Farmer’s Market on a Saturday Morning and buy fresh flowers. The Union Square Farmer’s Market is a great place for selection and fantastic prices.

Any day is a great day to sit on the lawn at Bryant Park. The kids will enjoy this park as much as parents. The grass is beautifully maintained and there are cute little food shops all around. Don’t leave without riding the carousel. You’ll feel like you have been transported to France.

Hop over to 34th street for shopping, strolling past Macy’s and then on to the wonderful view of the Empire State building. Visit the observation deck for one of the best views of the city.

Come back to Brooklyn to feel a bit more of France. Visit the Civil War monument that is in the middle of Grand Army Plaza. There is a cute park with a cool fountain very close to the arch. Great for sitting and cooling off before a visit to the library or Park Slope.

Where do you love to visit when in NYC for the Summer? Share Below!

Last Stop on the Q Train.

When the temperature starts to rise in Brooklyn or most places in NYC for that matter, where do the locals head? A little closer to the Atlantic Ocean. When you are looking for cool breeze and some fun then you go to the beach at Coney Island, ride a few rides at Luna Park, grab a bite of your favorite festival treat and take some Instagram pictures while you’re at it at a cool Art Wall.

This really cool mermaid mural is done by an artist named Lady Aiko, The murals are in the midst of a Smorgasburg (a cool mix of food trucks and vendors serving cultural favorites).
This black and white piece was a popular one with the picture taking crowd.

We were caught up with the art walls during on of our 2 day (consecutive) visits but this is how we get to Coney Island. First, we ditch the car. Driving to Coney Island on a weekend is a “no-go”. We park at our local train stop and hop on the “Q-Train”. It gets us there quickly plus the ride is outdoors and the view as you pull into the Coney Island stop (used to be Stillwell Ave.) is awesome and cannot be beat.

Take a peek in the purse and try to find treats for the train ride.
The beach was crowed with New Yorkers looking to beat the heat but despite the crowd it was a festive vibe. No one seemed to care that the water was frigid.
It is really simple to get here. Last stop on the Q Train.

DJ Magic’s Car and Bike Show Event with Bartenura Moscato.

Coney Island is known for it’s stars, The Cyclone and Nathan’s Hot Dogs, but this Sunday cars and bikes will be guest stars. Hot 97’s, DJ Magic will be hosting a Car and Bike Show like no other. The whole family can visit and take a peek at some of the coolest custom made cars and bikes seen on the streets of New York. Publicist, Marie Theodore, hosted a party for DJ Magic with drinks served by Bartenura Moscato. I’ve seen this blue bottle everywhere but have never tried it. This was my chance to get a taste. First, I am a moscato drinker so I am sold just with the word “moscato” alone. Upon tasting, I was not disappointed. There was the right amount of sweet that hit the tastebuds and surprise, there were bubbles! Who does not like a little sparkle? It’s a super refreshing wine that is perfect for Summer fetes and outings.

A List of things we love about this Bartenura Moscato:

Just the right amount of sweet.

Its Sparkly

Crisp and Refreshing

Perfect for pairing with Summer fruits and cheese. Picnic anyone?
